There is a fearful rise in the drug cases in Kerala in the recent years.  It is alarming to know that most of the people involved in this are youngsters. 

Mr.X is hardly alone in facing severe problems due to drug addiction in Kerala. but he is one of them who the Theruvoram NGO was able to help.

Mr.X is 21 years old young man living with his parents, sister and a brother in a rental house. His father is an alcoholic and his mother  the sole bread-winner trying hard to make ends meet by working as a daily wage worker. This young man is battling addiction, impairing his ability to make appropriate decisions and act appropriately. For addicts it is nearly impossible to quit drugs, and in his need to buy more, he demands money from his mother and has physically abused her when he was denied. Sometimes, this escalates and things around the house are destroyed and it becomes a public disturbance. Substance abuse and addiction severely impact judgement, leading to suicide attempts. This is the case with MR.X who has attempted to commit suicide many times.

His mother and relatives don't know how to handle his situation. That's when Theruvoram Murugan get to know about him. Murugan, who always wants to help people in need, came forward to help. Mr.Murugan personally went to his house and saw the situation. Although there were no medical papers showing his previous treatment with his family, Murugan still decided to help them. He went to Kadavanthara police station and informed them about Mr.X 's situation. Police visited Mr.X's house with Murugan and witnessed the situation. They gave Murugan permission to take him to the hospital for further treatments. Murugan visited Kochi Corporation Counsellor and got their approval also. After getting approval, Murugan with the help of police took Mr.X to Ernakulam Government Hospital in Theruvoram ambulance where he is underwent a psychiatric evaluation and got the report from the doctors. After that they headed to Judicial Magistrate office, Kakkanad to get the court order to admit him to Mental Health Centre ,Thrissur. On going through the medical report and seeing the patient, Judicial Magistrate Office gave court order to take Mr.X to Mental Health Centre, Thrissur, where he is currently admitted and undergoing treatment.

A Helping Hand to Sankaran Kutty

Mr.Murugan, Theruvoram NGO founder, received a call about a person around 62 years old who was badly injured lying on the street in Aroor which is in Tripunithura Hill Station police area.  When Mr.Murugan reached the area, he spotted the old man, Sankaran Kutty, whose leg was severely injured. He had been lying on the streets for few days without anyone to help him.  His wound was infested with worms and was infected.  On further enquiry, Murugan found out that he has his own family but was not willing to stay with them or listen to them. His family was unable to take him to a hospital as he resisted them and became violent.  Although the old man was resisting, Theruvoram Murugan with the help of the police and social workers was able to take him to Vandanam Medical College hospital where he is currently being treated.
