About Theruvoram

Theruvoram is an NGO founded by Murugan S Theruvoram a social worker, for the rehabilitation of street people in Kochi. It was established in the year 2007. Even when our organization is operating in Kochi, we have made our services available all over Kerala. Theruvoram aims to reach out to the most marginalized children and old age people to provide interventions of shelter, medical, repatriation, rescue, death related, sponsorship, emotional support and guidance. Theruvoram believes in making the world a better place for the entire human race.

We hope that Theruvoram can serve as a door which can help the residents of Theruvoram from the challenges and triumphs, daily happenings and momentous occasions, and growth and transformations experienced by them. Our residents may include children, women and men with various disabilities; physical and mental, the ones abandoned in streets and others with diseases like leprosy without any age barriers.

In times of deep uncertainty, Theruvoram was at the forefront to help those in need. At times we were running up debts, and, going by the alarming rate at which it was rising, we came across a plethora of hurdles, but our team was working 24/7 to render our best services. The COVID-19 protocol created hurdles in the rehabilitation of people, as most hospitals and orphanages were turning them away, forcing Theruvoram to accommodate 40 of them at its center at Kakkanad. Drug Addiction

KOCHI : There is a fearful rise in the drug cases in Kerala in the recent years.  It is alarming to know that most of the people involved in this are youngsters.  Mr.X is hardly alone in facing severe problems due to drug addiction in Kerala. but he is one of them who the Theruvoram NGO was able to help. Mr.X is 21 years old young man living with his parents, sister and a brother in a rental house. His father is an alcoholic and his mother  the sole bread-winner trying hard to make ends meet by working as a daily wage worker. This young man is battling addiction, impairing his ability to make appropriate decisions and act appropriately. For addicts it is nearly impossible to quit drugs, and in his need to buy more, he demands money from his mother and has physically abused her when he was denied. A Helping Hand to Sankaran Kutty

Mr.Murugan, Theruvoram NGO founder, received a call about a person around 62 years old who was badly injured lying on the street in Aroor which is in Tripunithura Hill Station police area.  When Mr.Murugan reached the area, he spotted the old man, Sankaran Kutty, whose leg was severely injured. He had been lying on the streets for few days without anyone to help him.  His wound was infested with worms and was infected.  On further enquiry, Murugan found out that he has his own family but was not willing to stay with them or listen to them. His family was unable to take him to a hospital as he resisted them and became violent.  Although the old man was resisting, Theruvoram Murugan with the help of the police and social workers was able to take him to Vandanam Medical College hospital where he is currently being treated.
